Steam Game You Might Have Missed – Momodora 3

Looking for something to get on Steam? Having trouble sorting through everything that’s in the store? We have you covered through our Steam curator list, where we post recommendations of games we’ve reviewed here on DieHard GameFAN or have played through on our own time. Additionally, once a week we’ll be posting recommendations for games on our list, highlighting one of the many games we’ve played and loved. Today we’re going to look at Momodora 3, which I reviewed when it came out last summer.

Momodora 3
Publisher: rdein
Developer: rdein
Genre: Action
Release Date: 07/01/2014

My first impression of Momodora 3 was that it would be another Metroidvania with a cute veneer in the vein of Cave Story. While the graphics are cutesy and charming and it has boss fights and some exploration, its world is not quite as open as in Cave Story. It features the protagonists from the last two games, though in terms of story it’s not required that you’ve played them (but you can check them out for free here). It hits a spot between those two, with less free roaming and more structured stages than the second game, but the ability to warp between worlds at bells (which also serve as save points and healing spots). It’s not a very long game, but it’s enjoyable while it lasts, though it’s more challenging on higher difficulties than it looks. A fourth game is in the works, and you can contribute to the developer’s Patreon here. You can watch the trailer below.
