Game Collection Roundtable 03/27/2015: Bloodborne (PS4), Fossil Fighters Frontier (3DS), PSN Flash Sale

Every week, the Diehard GameFAN team adds new games to their collections. Sometimes they are new releases, physical or digital, DLC or full games, but they are all building blocks in our greater collections.

Lucard

This was a CRAZY purchase week for me. Lots of sales and stuff I picked up.

Video Games:

  • Sim Theme Park
  • Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
  • Game of Thrones
  • BREATH OF FIRE IV
  • Dino Crisis
  • Extreme Pinball
  • Mega Man X4
  • Mega Man X5
  • Game of Thrones: Episode 3

– All PSOne Classics (except the Atlus Game of Thrones). All less than a dollar each. I figured, hey why not? I also got the third Episode of Game of Thrones because it came out and I have a season pass.

Tabletop:
Warhammer –

  • Citadel Crusade Figure Case
  • Krell, Lord of Undeath

I needed a case for my figures and grabbed Krell since he was cheap (for Games Workshop)

Kings of War –

  • Abyssal Dwarf Mega Army
  • Abyssal Fiend
  • Abyssal Dwarf Dragon Rider

I added this to my post-Kickstarter pledge. Evil Dwarves. Why not?

Batman Miniature Game

  • Catwoman
  • Talia Al Ghul
  • The Riddler
  • Adam West
  • Bane Crew

– eight new figures to paint. This will be my April painting along with Deathstroke, three Poison Ivy plant monsters and the three figures coming with my rulebook (Alfred, Lobo and Nyssa Al Ghul)

Iron Kingdoms Unleashed Adventure Kit

-Looks like a fun board game/RPG Hybrid. Plus the playable characters are a Rifle toting gator man and a Fish person shaman thingie. Interesting.

Malifaux: Outcasts –

Pygapult

-I don’t play Malifaux and I have no interest in it but the first edition version of the Pygapult was on clearance and I decided to grab it because holy hell it is hilarious and will be fun to paint. It’s Goblin designed catapult that shoots mordibly obese pigs.

I grabbed the Case because I needed something to put my minis in

  • Story of Seasons (3DS)
  • Bloodborne (PS4)

Outside of playing the mess out of Raid Mode in Resident Evil Revelations 2, I was back and forth in Toronto this week so I didn’t see the need to buy too much, and a lot of the games on the PSN flash sale were games I wasn’t hyped up for, and with Dark Souls II seeing an expansion next week, I opted to forgo picking up the Dragon Age: Inquisition expansion for a week, just in case. I did call Story of Seasons as a review copy, though, and if you’ve been following its progress at all, you know that it’s a Harvest Moon game in everything but US name, so you probably know what to think about it: it’s a farming/dating simulator, and it’s cute, if a bit repetitive. Meanwhile, I haven’t done too much with Bloodborne yet, but I’ve seen J. Rose and Sean Madson swearing up a storm about it, and I… don’t think it’s that bad. The checkpoint placement is harsh, to be certain, but frankly, it’s absolutely not Dark Souls, and I think that’s where most people get caught up on it. It’s God of War or Ninja Gaiden but harder, and if you play it like those games, IE dodging like a crazy person, it’s a lot more reasonable. It’s also a lot more accessible as an experience, so far anyway, because it requires a lot less of the player overall, management-wise anyway, and I’m rather enjoying it for the small amount of time I put in, though I’m sure it’ll make me hate life eventually.

Crystal

  • NHL 15 (PS4)
  • Final Fantasy Type-0 (PS4)

Having been on a Blackhawks streak lately, we decided that NHL 15 was a good game to add to our collection. The reason for getting Type-0 should be fairly obvious; both of us are long-time fans of the Final Fantasy series, and this has gotten decent reviews. We figured, why not? Our PS4 collection needed to be beefed up a bit anyway.

Aaron

  • Game of Thrones Ep 3 (PS3)
  • Life is Strange Ep 2 (PS4)
  • Fossil Fighters Frontier (3DS)

I picked up the new episodes of my episodic games. My review for GoT is up already, and you can tell that I pretty much hated it. The writing is lazy, the technical issues are hilariously bad, and I’m really regretting playing it at all. At least I’ll have a platinum trophy at the end of it. On the other hand, I loved the new episode of Life is Strange. My review will be up shortly, but suffice it it to say it is everything that Game of Thrones is not. Finally, I grabbed the new Fossil Fighters. I loved the other two games and can’t wait to sink my teeth (har har) into this one. I also spent the ridiculously short amount of time to get the platinum for The Order. Glad I rented that one.

Madson

  • Mario Party 10 (Wii U)
  • Toad amiibo
  • Bloodborne Collector’s Edition (PS4)
  • Soldner-X: Himmelssturmer (PSN)
  • Klonoa: The Door to Phantomile (PSN)
  • Breath of Fire IV (PSN)
  • Fighting Force (PSN)
  • Katamari Damacy (PSN)
  • Soviet Strike (PSN)
  • Nuclear Strike (PSN)
  • Mega Man X4 (PSN)
  • Mega Man X5 (PSN)
  • Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse (PSN)
  • Tales of Monkey Island (PSN)
  • Back to the Future: The Game (PSN)
  • Sam & Max: BTS (PSN)
  • Jurassic Park: The Game (PSN)
  • Surgeon Simulator (PSN)

The $1 price point from the most recent PlayStation Network flash sale falls within that threshold where bad decisions are made. Games I already own or are not that interested in are no longer off limits. In addition to unplanned purchases, I also picked up Bloodborne on the PS4 as well as the new Mario Party.

Matt Yaeger

  • Dead Nation
  • Zeno Clash 2
  • Game of Thrones (non telltale)
  • Payday The Heist
  • Bejeweled 3
  • PAC-MAN Championship Edition

All from the PS3 sale. Thought I bought Matt Hazard Blood Bath and Beyond but I didn’t. Damnit. I don’t know if Sony is just experimenting with these Steam type sales, but I almost hope not for the sake of my backlog. There were some excellent titles in this along with junk that I’m sure wasn’t selling at all.

Widro

  • God of War Ascension (PS3)
