Game Collection Roundtable 01/30/2015: Grim Fandango Remastered, Terranigma (SNES), Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii U)

Every week, the Diehard GameFAN team adds new games to their collections. Sometimes they are new releases, physical or digital, DLC or full games, but they are all building blocks in our greater collections.

  • Grim Fandango Remastered (Vita)
  • Valkyria Chronicles (Steam)
  • Deja Vu (Steam)
  • Deja Vu II (Steam)
  • Uninvited (Steam)
  • Shadowgate (Steam)

Grim Fandango was a no brainer. I’m still sad that when this was up for the DHGF Hall of Fame, only two staffers (Dave and myself) had played it. Valkyria Chronicles was a gift from O’Reilly for some reason (16 gigs). The other four games were ports of the Apple IIe classic adventure games many of us loved in our youth. Seven bucks for perfect ports I can’t legally play any other way while supporting Zojoi? HELL YES.

  • Saints Row IV Re-Eleced (PS4)
  • Game of Thrones Season Pass (PS4)

I ended up taking advantage of some gift cards I had to go along with the 10% off on PSN and ended up picking up Saints Row IV Re-elected and the Game of Thrones Season Pass from Telltale. I haven’t had a chance to get into Game of Thrones yet but I did at least boot up Saints Row IV a few times when I couldn’t sleep to try it out on my Vita and it’s exactly what I expected having played it on PC and PS3 so I wasn’t disappointed at all except in that the remote play controls have no options to them which makes it a little awkward. Still as bizarre and fun as it was before.

  • Olioli (Vita)
  • Echochrome (PS3)
  • Costume Quest 2 (PS3)
  • Grim Fandango Remastered (Vita)

This week I took advantage of the indie sale (and that ten percent off code) to grab a few game that interested me. Also, I grabbed some more DLC songs for Hatsune Miku. Olioli is something Matt was gushing about at some point so I figured it probably didn’t suck. I should add that I’m not big on skateboard games. Still, I tried it and had some fun with it. Echochrome has been something I’ve been meaning to grab since the PSP days, but I only finally jumped on it. Costume Quest 2 is something I’ll save for next Halloween. I loved the first game, and it fits the season so perfectly. Finally I grabbed Grim Fandango and plan to play it as soon as possible. I’ve been hearing about good it is for years and haven’t had the chance to play it until now.

  • Illusion of Gaia (SNES)
  • Terranigma (SNES)
  • Infinite Space (DS)
  • Divinity: Original Sin (Steam)
  • Legend of Mana (PSN)

Most everything this past week was a birthday gift of some sort (thanks Julie, Mark, and Matt!) which goes to show everyone I know is an enabler to my backlog increasing habits. I also picked up Legend of Mana during the sale on Square Enix titles and will be kept on my Vita as a solemn reminder that there was a time when they used to make decent Mana games. Also, I have no faith that the new Vita release is going to be any good.

  • Nihilumbra (Vita)
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii U)

Even though I had Nihilumbra on Steam I never actually played it but already played through most of it on Vita and it’s really good. It’s great to have Metroid Prime Trilogy and the price was right.
