Game Collection Roundtable 12/19/2014: Child of Light (PS3, Vita), Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (PS4), Madden 15 (PS4)

Every week, the Diehard GameFAN team adds new games to their collections. Sometimes they are new releases, physical or digital, DLC or full games, but they are all building blocks in our greater collections.

Video Game:

  • Space Hack (Had to take)
  • Crash Time 2 (had to take)
  • Curse: the Eye of Isis
  • Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy
  • Return to Mysterious Island 2
  • Syder Arcade
  • The Egyptian Prophecy: The Fate of Ramses
  • Voyage: journey to the Moon
  • Space Hulk: Ascension
  • Midnight Mysteries: Witches of Abraham

I spent two bucks on the make your own Meridian4 bundle at Groupees.com. That netted me six games I wanted and two that came with the bundle automatically. I got four point and click adventure games and an Amiga shooter that I thought were decent back in their day or that I wanted to play but never got the chance. The other is a really bad survival horror game that Mark and I sometime wax “fondly” over. I decided since it was only thirty-three cents to see if it was as bad on the PC as it was on the Xbox. I hope so. As well, the Steam Sale started Saturday and I had a bunch of credit I was hanging on to for this. I used it to get Space Hulk & Midnight Mysteries. Total cost for the above ten games? $8.11.

The 16th was the last Day of Reaper Miniatures “12 Days of Reaper” and I wanted the Christmas Elf to go with the Christmas Knight, Christmas Eve and Christmas Familiars that I picked up so I had to place a $35 order to get her. Luckily there are a lot of figures I want to paint. I ended up getting the following:

So not bad. Eight metal sculpts for $35. That’s about $4.80 a figure, which is a nice price.

I also picked up some figures for the Spanish Batman Miniature Game to paint. These things are really nicely sculpted and will be fun to paint.

Finally I picked up two other figures that I wanted to paint:

  • Captain America
  • Anton Marivaldi (As a gift to the author of this character who is a friend of mine.) There are only 1500 made so hopefully I don’t make a mess of it. :-P

  • Madden NFL 15 (PS4)

I’d been side-eyeing this for awhile. I’ve got Madden NFL 25 for my PS3, but lately my PS3 has become my Netflix box almost exclusively so my wife and I can watch it on the TV together and if I’m only half-interested I pull out the Vita and remote play any number of my PS4 games. Not that I’ve been home much the last month to actually watch anything with her, but I’d heard a few good things about this one from a few friends and ended up getting this one as a surprise a week after it’d been on sale for half off. The visuals are great, the mechanics are mostly ok. I do like the play calling and basically going to the community to see what’s been working and what hasn’t on a play. I do wish the announcers seemed to care about what was going on more and that the game didn’t have so many glitches in pre-season or when I substitute a player because they’re hurt and the announcers are still calling for my first stringer. Other than that I managed to recreate the Bills-Jets game that I got to go to at Ford Field pretty faithfully (the game didn’t paint Bills logos on the field like they actually did but I’ll forgive them this time) and I’m having fun with it so that’s all that matters.

  • Child of Light (PS3)
  • Detective Grimoire (iOS)

I’ve had my eye on this for a while (why yes I’m a JRPG/RPG nut why do you ask), but was waiting for a good sale. I initially considered grabbing it off Steam, but was warned off it due to UPlay on that version. The art style looks beautiful and I can’t wait to really sit down with it. I grabbed Detective Grimoire while it was free for Pocket Gamer’s promotion. Seeing it described as “Ace Attorney on Steam” piqued my interest (even if I ended up getting the iOS version), and for the grand total of free why not?

  • Hearthstone: Goblins vs Gnomes (PC)
  • Child of Light (Vita)
  • A bunch of Double Fine stuff (PC)
  • This War of Mine (PC)

Yeah. I dropped probably twenty-five bucks or so on Hearthstone cards this week. The new expansion is all kinds of fun and it’s great not knowing what kinds of crazy decks you’ll encounter on the ladder. I could have gotten that same amount of content by earning gold and being patient. That just ain’t my style. I grabbed Child of Light off of the PSN holiday sale. I already had it for my PS3, but hadn’t played it yet. The game just seems to fit too perfectly on the Vita. About an hour or so in and I’m really enjoying myself with it. The Double Fine stuff came in a bundle that steam had. It included Brutal Legend, Stacking, Costume Quest, and a few others. The big one for me is Pyschonauts, which I’ve been sort of meaning to buy for a while now. Who knows if I’ll actually find the time to play it though. Finally, I just got a copy of This War of Mine. I’m very interested to try it out and will be putting a review up for it sooner rather than later.

  • Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (PS4)
  • Super Mega Baseball (PS4/PS3)

I’m not that great at fighting games, but the awesome graphics in Guilty Gear Xrd won me over and I even did an unboxing. Super Mega Baseball looked really fun and like something I wanted to support so I went for that as well. So far it’s everything the RBI Baseball reboot should have been, sans the real players and teams.
