Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS – New Character Confirmed! Little Mac!

Little Mac punches into Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS.  Introduced with a comic-style training vignette and cheered on by his trainer, Mac throws a bevy of punches on poor old Sandbag before we see him show up in game.

Samus mocks his height and promptly gets sent flying.  Doc Louis runs down Mac’s attacks and coaches him from off screen while he wails on the current cast.  Mac appears to have a counter move, likely not unlike Lucario’s Double Team.  His recovery Up-B, however, looks to be a bit limited.  Something tells me he’ll have something to counteract that.  Mac is a pretty small target and seems to be quite fast.  We can never judge combo ability from initial videos, since what’s on display isn’t always that “tournament” style play, but speed combined with the strikes we’ve seen so far are very promising.  Mac also seems to have a power meter mechanic.  This might be tied to one move or an overall mechanic similar to Lucario’s Aura Boosts.  We’ll have to confirm that as more information becomes available, which we can expect in the next week.  Sakurai does love to show us his new characters for days at a time!

My hope for the character is to see some real combo potential realized.  Little Mac has been clamored for by fans for quite some time to be playable and Sakurai has delivered.  Doc commentating as Mac fights would be a pretty fun change of pace as far as audio goes, but I’m not getting my hopes up to hear that at all times.

What do you think of the punchy new challenger?
