When Sony launched the Playstation Vita in North America, backward compatability with PSP seemed to be far less extensive than was originally thought. At first, only 275 PSP games worked on the Vita, with PS Minis making up a substantial part of the list (a category most would agree is largely worthless). What seemed most amazing was the vast quantity of first party games that didn’t work (and continue not to work) on the next gen portable.
However, Vita owners who also have a PS3 have a solution. By downloading PSP games to the PS3, then using the Vita Content Manager to transfer them to the Vita, many more games are available.
As a (rare) proud PSP Go owner, I have a library of about forty downloaded PSP games, and a large majority of those that are not “officially” available according to Sony appear to work just fine. Keep in mind there might be reasons these games aren’t listed – there could be bugs embedded in the game, or the online experience. All I’ve tested thusfar is that the game will transfer to PSP and start up, and I played to the first playable area to confirm.
