Well color me surprised – going off of the previous update schedules, I expected a DK announcement around the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but due to the partner system of that game, I had pretty much settled on a Diddy/Dixie combo for Smash Bros. Instead, we get the return of Diddy Kong, who appears to have pretty much retained his Brawl moveset from the released screens. Now that’s not a complaint, but to really capture players, some changes to these characters would be a pleasant surprise (for example, Mario still having FLUDD as a special move makes it look like a lazy copy and paste job).
The big announcement concerning him is that his flexibility is increased, and this translates to his arms stretching a bit on forward tilt and presumably some other moves. Gameplay wise this isn’t especially exciting, since he just looks to be the same as in Brawl, but from a visual standpoint Diddy is interesting. He’s extremely expressive, which seems to be the theme for this game, and that style fits for a bunch of Nintendo characters bopping each other with paper fans and baseball bats.
Diddy also brings with him his banana peels… how I hate those banana peels.
