Game Collection Roundtable 04/16/2016: Ratchet & Clank (PS4), Bravely Second Collector’s Edition (3DS), Dark Souls III (XBO)

Every week, the Diehard GameFAN team adds new games to their collections. Sometimes they are new releases, physical or digital, DLC or full games, but they are all building blocks in our greater collections.

Dark Souls III (XBO)
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 (PS4)

Yes, I reviewed the PS4 version of Dark Souls III, and to answer the question of why someone would need the game on two different consoles, the answer is “because I have friends playing it on both consoles, and the game finally supports something approaching an actual co-op mode. It’s true; you pop in a password in the online config screen, and the game will force-match you to anyone with that password, so you’ll only see summon signs for people using that password, which the game is (so far) doing an exceptional job of popping almost immediately when someone puts one down. I’ve played with both of my local friends online so far and it’s an amazing experience; I know that Souls purists are probably less than thrilled about the change, but honestly, running a three person party through a zone, wrecking everything you see is surprisingly satisfying, and I’d be amazed if From didn’t try to do something with that concept in a different game before the end of the decade.

I also imported DOAX3 because I found it somewhere cheap that wasn’t Play Asia (because fuck you if you think I’m ever going to reward a company for exploiting people’s beliefs for profit), and it’s… more or less what you think it is.

Fire Emblem Fates Birthright (3DS)

Yes, I’m late to the party, but better late than never. I look forward to invading my friends’ castles and making beautiful bond babies with them. Well, and everything else about Fire Emblem, of course.

Bravely Second Collector’s Edition (3DS)
MLB The Show 16 (PS4)

The first game is for me, of course; I loved Bravely Default and had to pick up the second. I’m considering it an early birthday present. The latter is all Ryan’s game. He seems to be enjoying it, though it seems like maybe the controls aren’t exactly to his liking.

Ratchet & Clank (PS4) – What’s that? Dark Souls 3? Haha! This is Ratchet & Clank week fools! The game is pretty great so far. It’s like a greatest hits compilation rolled into a retelling of the original story (modified to match the upcoming film). I’ve been eagerly awaiting this one since the moment it was announced. It, at least, has not let me down.

The Bravely Second CE was a given, but I decided to pick up Dark Souls 3 because I just needed another reason to hate myself and the ways I spend my time.

I’ll be picking up Bravely Second Collector’s Edition (3DS) as I’m finally done with buying Japanese One Punch Man fanmanga.

…I’m not but I like to believe I am.

Though I haven’t really had time to check out the demo because Fire Emblem Fates has been taking up way too much of my time, I’m still looking forward to Bravely Second.

Ratchet & Clank (PS4) – loving this so far, about halfway through, graphics are ridiculous.
