Unboxing the Reaper Bones II Kickstarter!

Back in October of 2013, I was one of the early bird backers of the second Reaper Bones Kickstarter. This crowdfunding effort raised over three million dollars and had nearly fifteen thousand people back it. Early this month, Reaper began to ship the Kickstarter rewards and on Feburary 12th mine arrived, right as I was in the middle of painting some figures from the Batman Miniature Game and Warhammer 40,000. Looks like my Poison Ivy and Chaos Space Marine warbands will have wait as I decide what to paint (and review out of these new releases. I’m not even halfway done painting the first Reaper Bones Kickstarter! Looks like I have several years of painting ahead of me. What follows are two dozen pictures from my unboxing the options I chose. Please note that these are not all the possible items available in the Kickstarter – just the ones I wanted. Also remember you can click on each picture to get a larger view of the image.

Here’s the box as it arrived. Unopened and full of plastic joy.

The box opened.

Front and center is a thank you card from the staff at Reaper.

I loved that they included a “Pack By” slip so I knew who to blame if something was missing or broken. Don’t worry though – everything came out just fine.

What the inside of the box looked like with the packing material removed.

The back of the core pledge box.

The inside of the core pledge box. No, I’m not going to remove all 150+ figures and show them to you.

Now for the add-ons. here is Khanjira, the World Breaker. Let’s be honest – it’s a tarrasque. It looks awesome and I can’t wait to paint this thing.

IMG_2079

The back of Khanjira’s box. A picture can’t really show you how big this is. Realize most figures are 28-30mm. Khanjira stands 7″ tall without the scenic base. Holy crap.

IMG_2080

The contents of this bag will eventually be Narthax the dragon.

IMG_2081

This is the Lords of Darkness add-on pack.

IMG_2082

This is the Heroes and Villains pack. It’s humanoid figures with scenic bases.

IMG_2083

Here is another dragon. This time it’s Blightfang.

IMG_2084

The third and final dragon I added on was Cinder.

IMG_2085

What on Earth is in this brown paper sack?

IMG_2086

Bases! Lots and lots of bases!

IMG_2087

Here’s the Bones Add-On set #2. I didn’t bother with sets 1 or 3. #1 only had the cultists and the summoning circle that interested me and #3 had nothing at all I wanted. #2 had the translucent purple figures and some cavalry I liked. You can’t see it to well in this picture, but the people with mounts are already attached to the horses. Usually they are separate and you paint one first, then the other and finally glue the two finished pieces together. It’ll be interested to see how I can get to some parts of these figures like this.

Finally we have the crown jewel of this Kickstarter- Dragon’s Don’t Share. This scene contains a dragon and an adventuring team of five very different figures doing battle in some ancient ruins. It looks amazing and I am chomping at the bit to paint this. I think every mini painter worth their salt will want to get their hands on this piece.

IMG_2091

A close up of the dragon and figures. You can’t see the ruins in the box and I’m not ready to open it yet. Sorry. Don’t worry though. When I do paint and review Dragons Don’t Share, you’ll get to see it then!

IMG_2092

Finally, we have the back of the box for Dragon’s Don’t Share. So awesome.

IMG_2093

I’m not the only one enjoying my Reaper Bones Kickstarter! My kitten, Angel of Music had a blast with the packing material.

So that’s it. Stay tuned throughout 2015 as I paint and review these figures. The only problem is deciding what to paint first! Any suggestions?

heh we’re really really close on order number! Kinda envy that your thank-you card was lace nicely on top – mine was kinda mushed in :(
