Unboxing of DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Collector’s Edition

While the Vita doesn’t have the most robust library, there have been a number of titles surfacing that are beginning to make it a worthwhile platform to own. This is great, as the more months that roll by, the more excuses I’m finding to bust the system out of its clamshell case and actually play with it. DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc was shaping up to be one of those games, and I knew I had to have the collector’s edition to go with it.

For the unfamiliar, DanganRonpa is developed by the same folks that brought you 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward. So one would expect a well written story (as well as that weird black and white bear thing that graces the cover). And since this is published by NIS in North America, one would also expect a nice collector’s edition set to go with it as has become their standard as of late. The DanganRonpa set was sold exclusively on the NISA online store for $49.99 and has since sold out. However, if you see them floating around second hand and are wondering if you should pull the trigger, check out my photos below and see if it’s worth the upcharge:

Here it is in all its plastic wrapped glory.

Here’s the backside. There’s lots happening in that box art.

Once you remove the plastic wrap, the right side of the box remains open where you can just slide the contents out. I laid out everything so you can see all of the contents together.

Let’s take a closer look at that artbook. Though it’s really not an artbook in the traditional sense. Rather, it seems to function more as a reference guide to the various characters in the game. And yes, it’s a softcover booklet.

Here’s a glimpse at the inside so you can see the character biographies which I speak of.

And a picture of the backside. “Pull the trigger,” you say? Yes, Mr. Bear Thing, I believe I have. My wallet weeps.

Now for the soundtrack. This comes in a jewel case, which is nice since the outer box probably wouldn’t do much to save the disk from damage.

I rather enjoy the artwork on the disk. In case you’re wondering, that piece of paper on the left side is just that. It’s not a mini-booklet or anything like that.

Here’s the backside. I can’t wait to hear what Despair in Stereo sounds like. Hopefully not like Miley Cyrus.

Of course, we have the obligatory front and back pics of the normal game case, which you should be familiar with if you didn’t pick the game up on PSN.

Here’s a better size comparison between the outer box and the inner game. Not as drastic as some, but it may not fit neatly with your other games.

And now a side view.

If you haven’t already, go and check out Josh’s glowing review of the game right now. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get around to it myself yet this month, though with everything else that’s on deck, I’m not going to hold my breath. Not that it’s going anywhere. As always, thanks for checking this out!
