A new item appears! The Beetle from Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will appear in the new Smash Bros games for both Wii U and 3DS. When fired at an opponent, it will carry them seemingly straight up in the air, leaving them open for follow up. A free shot at a Final Smash or throwing the powerful Homerun Bat is nothing to be sneezed at. My guess is the higher your damage, the longer you’re caught by the Beetle. Perhaps if you have enough damage or the stage is shallow enough, it’ll carry you right up to the top of the screen and you’ll lose a stock?
Now I’m sure many of you looking at this are saying “Items? What tomfoolery!” or something to that effect. When I’m traveling to Apex or some other tournament, I’d agree with you. When I’ve got a bunch of buddies over at the house and we’re playing for fun? Not so much. Interesting items are one of the things that makes Smash…well, Smash. Sakurai did tease me for a second here, I must admit. A part of me wanted to believe we were getting a fundamental change to Link’s moveset. Here’s hoping for a big change on the Toon Link side of things.
