Final Fantasy Tactics Creator Launches Kickstarter For Unsung Story

A $600,000 funding goal may seem like a lot for an RPG project on Kickstarter, especially considering how crowded it already is with everyone’s RPG Maker fodder. However, having a man like Yasumi Matsuno at the helm suddenly allows everything to make sense.

For the unfamiliar, Yasumi Matsuno’s work is an impressive pedigree of titles ranging from Final Fantasy games (Tactics, XII), to Ogre Battle games (Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together), to other highly acclaimed RPG’s (Vagrant Story, Crimson Shroud). In fact, two of those games have scored 40/40 in Famitsu, which is a rare feat for any designer. Which is why his latest project, Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians is one to keep an eye on.

The project seems poised to keep with the tactical RPG gameplay his games have popularized and what was originally slated to just be a mobile title has since moved to PC development. If you look at the stretch goals though, $1.8 million will secure a Vita release while $2.8 million will net a 3DS port. If you’re as excited at the prospect of a Final Fantasy Tactics spiritual successor as I am, go check out his project.
