El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron: Early Thoughts & Video Preview

One of the major (only?) console releases this week will be Ignition’s El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron for PS3 and Xbox 360.

It’s a third-person action-adventure game in the vein of God of War or Bayonetta but with the twist of a religion-tinged storyline. I imported the game earlier this year and beat it in Japanese, experiencing the graphics and gameplay but not really the story. The graphics are top notch, but the gameplay was somewhat shallow and on the easy side.

I plan on picking up the game on Tuesday or Wednesday, and I hope to get a full picture of the game’s story and atmosphere. In the meantime here is a video to get you excited:

What’s interesting about El Shaddai is that as the game nears its release this week, the developer is finishing up the last touches on the game and then will be shuttered. It’s part of a sad and unsettling trend of game developers being shut down even before their (final) game is put out in the market.

Are you excited to pick up El Shaddai? How do you feel about game releases as the developers of the game are being dismantled?
