Gaming Zen 10-2-06

Hello folks. Man, I am tired today. Itâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s been a long week, and Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢m entering into the most dreaded time of the year, fall midterms. Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ve got a metric ton of writing to do so weâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ll keep this short.

Gaming Zenâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s X06 Wrap Up

Take everything negative I wrote about Sony last week. Got it? Good, good. Now do me a favor and cross out Sony and put in Microsoft. Then pretend that this document came from Bizarro World as everything that could be said negative about Sony can be said positive about Microsoft.

There was an absolute dearth of good news from Microsoft so letâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s look at the disappointing news. The HD-DVD player is just too much to start out. $200 for an HD-DVD player says letâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s price ourselves right up against the PS3. At $200, youâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ve spent $600 to get a next generation DVD player while the low end PS3 isnâ┚¬â”žÂ¢t really that low end anymore. Yes Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢m happy that this is optional as opposed to built in because I think HD-DVD and Blu Ray are unnecessary. The fact that itâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s bundled with King Kong and a universal remote helps soften the blow, but I sincerely think the price is a bit too high. Thatâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s about it for negative news.

Up until this week, I had only a passing interest in the 360 thanks to Dead Rising and to a much lesser extent Amped 3, Kameo, and Elder Scrolls IV though. After the announcement of Banjo Kazooie 3 though, I started to come around. Followed with how ridiculously awesome Bioshock, Alan Wake, Guitar Hero 2, and Gears of War all look has brought me around further. The system has some much needed variety with Blue Dragon, Halo Wars, and Viva PiÃÆ’±ata now.

Anywho, the 360 seems to have quite a few interesting applications coming out. Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢m not too stoked about their fall line up (though Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ll pick up DOA: Xtreme 2 eventually because Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢m a pervert, and I really like volleyball games). Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢m still looking forward to Wii more and almost all of my Fall gaming budget is going to Nintendo, but I see myself picking up a 360 sooner then a PS3. A month ago that wasnâ┚¬â”žÂ¢t the case (simply because of my huge backlog of PS2 titles, Virtua Fighter 5, and PSP connectivity). Now Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢m interested in the 360 again. Assuming my car doesnâ┚¬â”žÂ¢t explode like it did the last time I bought one (yes this happened after 8 hours waiting overnight at launch).

Deal of the Week

Circuit City has Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 this week for the low price of $23.99. Itâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s pretty much Lemmings with Mario if thatâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s your thing. Thatâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s a solid game this week. Check out your local stores for clearances. Circuit City also has Fire Emblem: PoR, Chibi Robo, and Battalion Wars for $15 on clearance among other things. Look around a bit.

Game of the Week

Bunch of stuff this week right? No, there isnâ┚¬â”žÂ¢t. FIFA 07 wins by default. The latest round of Playerâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s Choice games for the Game Boy Advanced makes there a few things worth checking out this week. If youâ┚¬â”žÂ¢re itching for a new game, every system besides the Xbox 360/Xbox had at least one great game come out last month. Go try that instead of soccer.

What Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ve Been Playing

PokÃÆ’©mon Everything- Yeah, itâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s been a rather PokÃÆ’©mon filled week for me. Toys R Us was handing out Mew for all current GBA carts so I spent a rather plentiful amount of time doing that. Also Mystery Dungeon has been a blast so I keep on trucking playing that.

Mega Man Zero- Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ve managed to get a hold of the entire series besides ZX so I figured Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢d start at the beginning. Itâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s a solid title with enough variety in both boss fights and the level design to hold up really well. Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ve been having fun with it.

Mario Superstar Baseball- Itâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s a fun game, but it has no where near the depth of Mario Tennis or Golf yet. Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ll get over it.

Ikagura- *swoon*

Well thatâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s it for this week. Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ll do better next week. Sorry this sucked, but Iâ┚¬â”žÂ¢ve got all sorts of stuff to do now. Later everyone.
