Gaming Zen (9/19/05)

Hey everyone. Now that Lee is back I’ve moved to Mondays. The Tokyo Game Show was this weekend, and we now know the gist of what the Revolution controller looks like. Pretty much everyone will say what they think of it this week. I’m pretty much on the fence about it until I get a chance to play with it. I shit all over the DS when it first came out as gimmicky and a brick, but I clearly really like the system if you follow this column. Anyways, let’s hit a few of the other topics from TGS.

Games, Games, and More Games…

Besides the Revolution, a couple of huge games were announced, at least for us on staff. Lucard and LC were thanking a higher power when it was announced that there’s a new Cardfighters’ Clash coming out for the Nintendo DS as collectively they should. I think every gamer has a game where we would shit ourselves if it was announced. For me, it’s Uniracers.

I’ve never cared much for stealth action games, but Metal Gear Solid 4 looks pretty impressive, as did most of the PS3 games. Sonic also looked nice. Still, I hope Sega realizes that we just want to run as fast as *cough* quickly as possible. Also you’ve got Devil May Cry 4 that everyone will love when it eventually comes out. Besides that, you’ve got a slew of announcements of support for the next generation including another King of the Fighters: Maximum Impact, Suikoden, and Ridge Racer.

There are a few other games that really caught my attention are Rockman Rockman for the PSP, the upcoming remake of the original Mega Man. The fact that it has a level editor pretty much blows my mind. The next entry into the Sega Ages line will be a remake of the classic Panzer Dragoon Saga. No word on whether Sega is considering adding this to the Sega Classics Collection but I sure to god hope so. The more Panzer Dragoon in the US, the better. Plus there’s another Katamari Damacy coming out for the PSP, a third Xenosaga for the PS2, another Baiten Kaitos for the Gamecube, and a bunch of solid Japanese release dates for big games like Kingdom Hearts 2.

All in all, TGS was pretty standard fare outside of the Revolution. Give credit where credit is due though. Everyone is talking about the controller, and that single announcement overshadowed a good portion of the PS3 and Xbox 360 talk. It may be mixed talk, but it is talk none the less.

Game of the Week

I have not played any of the games out this week yet nor do I plan to. I hate video games!!1111 Still, I’ll try to pick what game sounds the most interesting this week. Releases are picked from what Misha says so if the winning game isn’t out this week, it’s his damn fault. Except Misha was trying to mod his remote into a Revolution controller to play the inevitable Super Mario Sex Game. Nintendo really is running out of ideas. Oh and this will be console games only as you’ll probably end up downloading the PC games anyways.

In a huge week, the fact that a new Katamari Damacy is out overshadows all other games for us at IP Games. KD 1 was our game of the year last year, and this year’s version adds co-op play. It’s a great week if you’re a gamer though with the possibility of no less then 6 must own games. Marvel Nemesis looks pretty slick although it sucks Madden isn’t a playable character. Ultimate Spider Man may just be the best Spider Man game ever. The highly underrated RPG Maker gets another entry this week. Plus we get a re-release of Ninja Gaiden too. There really is something for everyone this week, including a new Tiger Woods with the new “pressure” system. Thank god a new console is coming out soon because EA is really stretching at this point to put out new features for sports games.

That’s it for this week. See you next Monday.
